A two-vehicle wreck involving a Brownwood Police patrol unit and a Chevy Suburban on Thursday afternoon about 4:30pm sent a Brownwood police officer to the hospital.

According to police on the scene, as the officer was responding to the call of a burglary in progress, he turned from Brady Avenue into the northbound lane of Austin Avenue at the bottom of the Bill Monroe Overpass when it was struck by the oncoming Suburban.

The officer, whose name has not been released until family is notified of the accident, was sent to Brownwood Regional Medical Center for evaluation and is in stable condition with minor injuries, according to officials.  The patrol unit was t-boned on the driver’s side damaging both doors on that side and the back driver’s side wheel.  Damage to the driver’s door made it unable to be shut after the wreck.

All four occupants of the Suburban were wearing their seat belts and were shaken but uninjured.  The front airbag of the Suburban deployed, shattering the passenger side of the front windshield.
