parentsAll I can say is thank Heaven for involved parents! Everyone involved in education recognizes the importance of parents who are concerned and involved with their child’s education. While we know teachers, aides, and administrators are important and valuable people – it is the parents that make all the difference in the world! We are really fortunate to have some pretty amazing parents involved in their children’s education.

Through the years, we have done things for which we needed help from the parents. For example, we have a fiesta each year, Christmas celebrations, and Extreme Interests. Each year, our parents come through for us and make our lives so much easier and make their kids so proud! One time, a mom showed up at our party with several pizzas and then stayed to help. For our fiesta, our parents always come through with all sorts of dishes and paper goods for the celebration. Just a little secret…the fiesta is one of our favorite events!

When we took our GT students to the robotics competition, we were so happy to see the number of parents who came to support their kids. On another trip to a museum, we saw more of that wonderful involvement with the students.

Now we are preparing for our annual Extreme Interest days and already we have parents volunteering to share their interests or jobs with the kids. Right now we have parents volunteering to bring horses, one family wants to demonstrate cookie decorating, and who knows what else we will get from these amazing people?

It is pretty awesome that they are willing to give up their own time to share a little bit of themselves with us and all our students. I know that in my past columns I’ve focused on the kids, the teachers, and stories about school. For this one, however, I want to be sure to let the parents out there know how very important you are, and how much your involvement and support is appreciated!

So, to all you parents out there who always want to know how your kids’ day was, and why is this grade not any better, or who give celebratory hugs for success and comforting hugs for disappointment I simply want to say this:

Thank you. We are truly honored to be working with your children and with you.
