Many talk loudly with words about the importance of character and moral values, but never really seem to produce. Bryan Harvey simply talks with his actions, and although we do not live in the Brownwood community, my wife and I have been fortunate to witness many examples of his willingness to do for others.
Many might not realize that he and his wife have chosen to adopt children, and now have three that have come from difficult backgrounds. Regardless of the difficulties they face, daily they patiently work through the struggles with each child, while being committed to letting them know unconditional love. Along with demonstrating that character, Bryan takes advantage of opportunities to teach his children the importance of these values as he creates circumstances to let his children put those values into practice. Recently Bryan helped his young son put together and deliver a care package for our son, who attends college in Brownwood and was getting ready to travel with the baseball team to a set of weekend games in another town.
Bryan definitely demonstrates a servant leader’s heart, and his care for our daughter during a recent trip to the emergency room pretty much says it all. Just a few nights ago, we received a call from our daughter, who attends college in Brownwood also. She had a pain in her chest, which increased each time she took a breath. Helplessness and worry overwhelmed us, since we are two hours away and couldn’t do anything. We called Bryan, knowing that his firefighting/EMT experience would be helpful in getting information about what we should do. He dropped what he was doing and immediately met her at the emergency room, where he stayed with my daughter all night until around 6 am. He understood our concern, and kept us informed, treating our daughter as if she was his own.
These events are just a few of the many that we know about concerning Bryan and his integrity, compassion, and willingness to serve, even when it is most inconvenient. We have never had anyone demonstrate such character to us in very practical ways like this before. There is no doubt in my mind that Bryan Harvey is very real, and without question demonstrates the kind of character and leadership that the community of Brownwood would benefit greatly from serving in the role of County Commissioner Precinct 1.
