Longtime Brown County Commissioner Richard Gist and Commissioner Bob Clark were honored at a farewell party in the Brown County Commissioners’ courtroom Monday morning.
After 20 years of service, Commissioner Richard Gist sat in his last meeting of the court Monday. Clark also finished his final meeting, after being appointed to the court in January and having served nearly a year. Both Gist and Clark received plaques of appreciation from the county for dedicated service and willingness to serve the citizens of Brown County.
Commissioner Joel Kelton stated that the court will miss Commissioner Gist, after having served so long together on the court.
“We are really going to miss him. He was our mentor,” Kelton said. He explained that Gist had held a seat in the court for many years and was helpful when he and Larry Traweek were elected, which for Kelton was 6 years ago. “It is going to be awkward without him, when we start again on the 2nd (of January) without them, but we will do our best.”
Gist stated that he will have some adjustments to make but that he has not decided what he will do in his spare time. Gist stated that he had enjoyed serving as commissioner and may have to remind himself that he doesn’t have to go in to the precinct barn every morning as customary.
“There’ll be some adjustment to make,” said Clark of his term ending. “It’s been a pleasure to serve.”
Newly elected commissioners Gary Worley and Wayne Shaw will take their seats on the court in January.
