Ottis Durwood “Woody” Chambers passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at his home in Lake Brownwood, Texas.
He was born November 12, 1936 in New Mexico to Delton and Ressie May Anderson Chambers. Woody started in the oilfield in 1954 at the age of 17 as a rough neck. At the age of 19, he became a driller in Odessa, Texas. In 1959, he moved back to Rising Star and started farming and ranching and working part time for various drilling companies. In 1973 to 1978 he moved into oilfield management. In 1978 to 1981 he owned and operated his own drilling company. Woody then semi retired and worked part time in the oilfield and construction until 2002. He started working part time for Good Samaritan Ministries and fishing, he loved both.Woody is survived by two daughters; Doddie Davis and husband Rusty of Abilene, Texas and Tabitha “Taby” Durr and husband Glenn of San Antonio, Texas, one son Thad Chambers and wife Valerie of Kerrville, Texas. He is survived by his wife Mary Chambers of Lake Brownwood, Texas. He is also survived by six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and seventeen nieces and nephews.
Woody is preceded in death by his parents, one daughter and son-in-law Taronna and Jeff Sewalt, two brothers and four sisters.
