Funeral services for Oscar Wheat, age 90, of Abilene, formerly of Brownwood have been re-scheduled for 2:00 PM, Sunday, March 1, 2015 in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at 1:00 PM prior to the service. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Park.
Mr. Wheat passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at his home in Abilene surrounded by his loving family.
Oscar Dennis Wheatwas born on March 24, 1924 in Blanket, Texas to James Syra and Rose Anna Hulsey Wheat.He served in the United States Navy during WW II. Oscar was married to Imogene McDonald at the Brady Avenue Church of Christ in Brownwood where he was a longtime, faithful member and also served as an Elder. He moved to Abilene in 1999 and had previously lived in the Brownwood area for approximately 75 years where he retired from Montgomery Ward after 30 years of service and had also farmed for many years.
He is survived by his daughter Rebecca Hall and husband Stephen of Abilene; his son Robert Wheat of Abilene; his chosen daughter Deven Hall of Abilene; grandchildren Cory Hall, Kimberly Hall and Audey Palmer, John Hollar and Heather Sharp; numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, daughter-in-law, 6 sisters and 2 brothers.
