Local artist Sulema Orr was named winner of the Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit’s first annual digital photo shootout on Saturday.

Eight photographers participated in this event and had a few hours to photograph a subject in the downtown Brownwood area and apply any processing to the photograph.   Local photographer and radio personality Brian Wade was the judge for this year’s contest.

“Incredible, incredible work,” Wade said to the contestants as he announced the winner at the Brownwood Art Center. “I understand that the whole downtown area was your place to roam, and so you guys captured it well.  There are so many neat places downtown.”

Orr photographed and submitted the old grain elevators near the Lehnis Railroad Museum as her subject, showing a dark sky above them.

“After going through all of them and looking at them and realizing it is tough to make a call, ultimately I just had to go back to my first reaction when looking at the pictures,” Wade said.

Orr won a ribbon and $160 prize for the shootout.

Organizers of the event said that they plan to include the digital photo shootout contest again next year.
