In June of this year, FROG, Friends and Relatives of Greenleaf (cemetery) launched a letter campaign asking for donations to help purchase new flags to place at graves of veterans buried at Greenleaf Cemetery. For the past two years, FROG volunteers have placed American flags on approximately 1200 Veteran graves at Greenleaf . This past Memorial Day however, despite our diligent effort, Mother Nature’s 40+ mph winds over that weekend destroyed practically all the flags.
It was decided it would not be feasible to re-purchase the 12×18 plastic flags since the original plan was to use and recycle the flags. The new plan is to purchase the same size flags but of a superior quality cloth material that enable us to use the flags for years to come. Understandably, the cost for this quality flag exceeds the funds the FROG volunteers currently have.
FROG is very appreciative to the response from our letter campaign. We would like to thank the following persons and businesses for their support of monetary donation.
- Mills County State Bank, Brownwood Branch
- Citizens National Bank
- Texas Bank
- Mid-Tex FCU
- Dr. Dan Locker and Brownwood Specialty Group
- Ladies Auxiliary to Heart of Texas Post 3278 VFW
- Evy and Rowland Winn
- Billy Bennett
With these contributions, FROG is getting closer to reaching their goal to buy enough flags to honor every veteran buried at Greenleaf. We are still short of reaching that goal and are now making a PUBLIC appeal for donations to buy new flags. Any amount of contribution is appreciated and will go directly to this project. Contributions can be mailed to FROG, P.O. Box 1055 Brownwood, TX 76804 or dropped off with FROG volunteers at The Bike Peddler, 1017 Austin Ave. Brownwood.
