We’ve all heard the old saying that an apple a day keeps the doctor away but what about that fruit that doesn’t rhyme with anything? Oranges have won the hearts of citrus fans across the globe and have multiple health benefits. Oranges are low calorie, contain no saturated fat or cholesterol and are rich in vitamin C and antioxidants as well as dietary fiber.
Oranges are conveniently packaged in their own self protective wrapper, making them easy to grab and go. One orange a day meets the daily requirement of vitamin C, a huge immune system booster. Just be sure to wash your hands and the fruit before peeling and you’re getting a tasty vital nutrient to help keep you healthy. Oranges also help keep your skin looking good, another side effect of their high vitamin C content. Oranges have also been said to help prevent cancer, kidney diseases, boost heart health, lower cholesterol, relieve constipation, fight viral infections, and regulate blood pressure.Oranges are grown worldwide and can be found in the grocery store year round. When selecting oranges look for ones that are firm and heavy for their size, don’t have soft spots, and are free of cuts and bruises. Oranges can be kept at room temperature or in the fruit and vegetable crisper of your refrigerator. They can be added to fruit salads, vegetable salads, and marinades for extra, healthy flavor. You can slice them, peel them and squeeze them but however you prepare them they are sure to pull their own weight in keeping you happy and healthy. The orange might not rhyme with anything but it sure has a lot of other benefits to its name.
