Funeral Services for Opal Hughes Wright, age 94, of Bangs, Texas will be held 2:00 PM Monday, June 16, 2014 at the Heartland Funeral Home with Pastor David Barnum officiating. Interment will follow in the Bangs Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2:00 – 4:00 PM Sunday at the Funeral Home. She passed away Thursday, June 12, 2014 at her daughters home in Driftwood, Texas.
Opal Marie was born on September 3, 1919 in Middleport, Ohio to Charles John and Janey Faye Dailey Hughes. She was married to James Wright in Kentucky. Mrs. Wright had worked as a “Rosie the Riveter” for North American Aviation during the 1950’s and retired from the Owens Illinois Glass Factory in Columbus, Ohio after 22 years. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary where she had served as a bookkeeper and was very active up until her later years, volunteering for the hospital and church.
Survivors include her daughter Rita Barnes Pehl and husband Walter of Driftwood, one son Gerald (Jerry) Overturf of Bangs, one daughter-in-law Barbara Deckard, one sister Nina Gainey of Groveport, Ohio, 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years James Wright, 2 daughters Linda Marie Lewis and Susie Faye Carpenter, one son Harry Deckard, special grandchildren Christopher Yantis, Bryan Harmon and Theresa Large, 2 sisters and 4 brothers.
