Brownwood Lion Kaimon Ontiveros signed a letter of intent to play football at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado on Tuesday morning.

Ontiveros made the decision after considering several options such as Hardin Simmons University, University of Mary Hardin Baylor and Fort Lewis College.

Brownwood Lions head Football Coach Chuck Howard stated that Ontiveros had asked his advice on which school to choose.   He stated that he told Ontiveros that he couldn’t tell him what to do, but would give him an opinion.

“The bottom line is that it is your decision, don’t be afraid to make a mistake, whatever decision you make, you ‘make it your right decision,’ you be on your timeline,” Howard stated.  “I wish you the best and know that you are going to make some great decisions there, you’ve got a great future ahead of you.”

In the end, Ontiveros chose Fort Lewis over the others because he found the coaches very likeable and that made the decision very easy.  He stated that he thinks it will be a “fun adventure to go to Colorado.”  He decided last Monday, when he came to find a peace about the decision.

Friends, family, fellow athletes and coaches were present to support Ontiveros as he committed to the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks, an NCAA Division II team.   He plans to pursue a degree in either sports medicine or psychology.

The biggest memory Ontiveros said he will take from Brownwood High School, as a Lion, is coming out of the tunnel at games.

“Coming out of the tunnel, hearing ‘Welcome to the Jungle,’ seeing the smoke, and all the little kids waiting for you—it’s a great experience,” said Ontiveros.
