2014 Brownwood defensive back Kaimon Ontiveros is very interested in playing football at Southern Methodist University. In fact, if the Mustangs were to offer, he would consider committing.
“[My interest level] is pretty high,” Ontiveros said. “They have a really good academic program. Their football program is definitely picking up. They’re about to have a top-notch football program, and it just seems like a fun environment.”
Ontiveros participated in SMU’s final summer football camp and was pleased with his performance.
“The camp went good,” he said. “There were a lot more kids than I expected so the reps were kind of limited. I felt that I did good with the reps I got. They have a different technique than I learned at my school so that was good.”
Ontiveros, listed at 5-foot-11, 180-pounds, plays safety for Brownwood. One of his former high school teammates, Derek Longoria, is a current Mustang and another reason that Ontiveros is considering SMU.
Ontiveros went to three SMU games last season and visited during junior day so he is extremely familiar with everything on the Hilltop.
“The campus is nice,” Ontiveros said. “It’s beautiful.”
Vanderbilt, UTSA, UNT, Texas State and a few Ivy League schools are also recruiting Ontiveros. But SMU appears to be around the top of his list at this moment.
SMU coaches Derrick Odum and Hal Mumme have been recruiting Ontiveros throughout the process, and he hopes to continue building a strong relationship with them.
