A man was transported to the hospital Friday morning after his vehicle collided with a belly dump gravel truck on Hwy 279 at the intersection of Farm Market Road 2492 north of Brownwood.
According to Department of Public Safety Trooper Marvin Molotsky, the Ford Escort was traveling behind the large truck in the southbound lane of Hwy 279 when the accident occurred around 8:35am. It appeared that when the truck was waiting to turn left onto a dirt road, the Escort came up behind it and swerved in an attempt to miss hitting the back of the truck; however, did hit the corner of the trailer, along with a stop sign and then came to a stop in a grassy area at the southwest corner of the intersection.
The truck received very minor damage and the Escort suffered extensive body damage, which caused the driver’s door to be inoperable. Lake Brownwood Volunteer Fire Department fire crews had to cut the door off of the vehicle to get the driver out.
The male driver was transported to Brownwood Regional Medical Center, the extent of his injuries were unknown at the time of the accident. The driver of the truck appeared to be uninjured.
DPS Trooper Molotsky, Brown County Sheriff’s Deputies and Guardian EMS responded to the accident scene.
