A two-vehicle accident injured one Wednesday morning in downtown Brownwood.

The accident occurred just before 9 a.m. at the intersection of Fisk Street and E. Adams Street.  According to witnesses on scene, a Ford Explorer was traveling north on Fisk when it struck a Pontiac Sunfire which was traveling West on E. Adams.  The impact of the collision caused the Explorer to spin around, cross E. Adams and come to a stop in the parking lot on the side of Wally’s Party Factory.  The Pontiac came to a stop in the Davis Floral parking lot.  A pedestrian crosswalk signal in front of the flower shop was also struck and knocked down as a result of the accident.

The Pontiac failed to yeild the right of way at the intersection due to possible brake failure, according to witnesses.

Brownwood Fire Department responded to the scene of the accident where the male driver of the Pontiac had to be extricated from the vehicle.  The driver was transported to the emergency room for treatment and evaluation of injuries which appeared to be non life-threatening, according to emergency responders on scene.  The female driver of the Explorer was not reported to be injured.

Brownwood Police Department, City of Brownwood Street crews, and Allegiance EMS responded to the scene of the accident.
