Early Tuesday morning, approximately 12:02am, Brownwood Police were called 1600 block of 11th Street in response to an emergency call from a woman who stated that her boyfriend had just “beaten up her mother”.

The female and her mother fled to the house next door where her parents live before police were called for help.

As officers arrived at the scene, they heard a muffled gunshot.  A call for backup was announced as many officers arrived to establish a perimeter of what would be a two hour standoff.  Attempts to contact the male subject failed as officers tried to gain visibility into the house.

Officers cautiously approached the house and were finally able to see into the residence and eventually determined that the male subject had taken his own life with one gunshot, heard earlier upon arrival.

The incident ended approximately 2:30am.  One officer received minor injuries when he stepped into a cactus while helping surround the house in the dark.

Police officials said that no reason for the argument and assault was available at the time of the report.  The woman and her mother were said to be alright considering the events that had occurred. Police did not release the deceased man’s name.

Sheriff’s deputies helped BPD with other pending calls while many officers were tied up on this incident.
