A Zephyr man was air lifted after a utility vehicle (UTV) accident early Sunday morning, according to Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper John Moody.
Allegiance EMS was called, at approximately noon Sunday, to the home of a 37-year-old man who law enforcement believes had an accident around 3:00 a.m. but had returned to his home injured, bruised and scratched up, according to Trooper Moody. After evaluating the man’s injuries, EMS determined he needed to be taken by helicopter to Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple for treatment.
Moody explained that it appeared the man had failed to negotiate a curve in the county road causing his UTV to leave the roadway. The vehicle struck several trees and a fence causing multiple injuries to the driver, said Moody. The male was reported to be conscious and speaking when emergency personnel arrived.“He was very lucky,” said Moody. “Having gone home to rest after the accident rather than seeking medical help could have been very dangerous, especially if he had suffered a concussion.”
Moody stated that according to the male’s mother, he did not suffer any life threatening injuries, had no head injury, but had some gashes on his head, lots of scrapes and cuts and several broken bones.
Zephyr Volunteer Fire Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Allegiance EMS and Air Evac Lifeteam responded to this call.
