Omagene (Jean) Starnes finished her work here on earth on Sunday July 15, 2018 and went to be with her Lord in Heaven.

Jean was born in Loraine Texas on September 11, 1929 to Leon Isaac Duffer and Vernamae Creek Duffer. The family later moved to Brownwood where she met the love of her life Ira Starnes. Ira and Jean made a home for themselves here in Brownwood where they were married and raised their two sons Larry and Lynn.

After both of her boys were grown and left home, Jean went to work for the Brownwood ISD where she later became the Food Director for BISD. Jean enjoyed her job and remained working as the food director until she retired. After retirement she devoted her time to working tirelessly in her church, The First United Methodist of Early. She also offered much of her time to the Good Samaritan Ministries and the Meals on Wheels program.

Jean always loved being with her family and watching the grandkids and great-grandkids grow. She enjoyed quilting, needle point, reading and spending time with her cat.

She is survived by her two sons, Larry Starnes and wife Marla of Early, TX, Lynn Starnes and wife Debbie of Mart, TX, her brother, Travis Duffer and wife Jana of Early, TX, four grandchildren, Stephanie Starnes of Mexia, TX, Justin Starnes of McKinney TX, Collyn Keyes of Nicoma Park, Oklahoma, Kilie Lopez and husband Isaac of Early, TX and eight great-grandchildren, Jaiden Cochran, Chase Cochran, Dylan Coleman, Teagan Lopez, Olivia Olson, Zaiden Starnes, Ella Starnes and Ian Starnes.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents Leon and Vernamae, her husband of 45 years Joe Starnes, her grand-daughter Gayle Starnes and a number of other relatives.

Jean will be greatly missed by many but she will live on through the lives of those she touched while here on earth.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Monday, July 23, 2018 at the Heartland Funeral Home in Early with interment to follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm at the funeral home.
