Friday evening, December 9, 2011, marked a special event for Rising Star as the old market building on Main Street in downtown Rising Star was once again opened as a gathering place for social events and special occasions.  The star on top of the market building was lit at 7pm and a benefit musical was held to mark this event.

The “Class of ’57” band played live music until 9pm, then a DJ took over and played a mix of popular, country, and Christmas tunes.  The “Chicken Dance” was a hit with the kids (some of those “kids” were in their 60’s).  Star Pride provided home baked refreshments along with punch, water, tea and coffee to drink.

A big thanks was offered to owner Jo Sledge from organizers of the event for her efforts to bring back a icon to the local history of Rising Star.  Citizens are urged to watch for future events in this special building.  To book an event, contact Ms. Sledge at 325-643-1580.  Organizers and the building’s owner hope public events can be held in the building at least once a month, for the enjoyment of the community.
