Over 40 officers representing seven separate law enforcement agencies across the State of Texas are currently participating in a two-day training event held at Camp Bowie in Brownwood. The training session is hosted by the Texas Narcotic Officers Association and is offered to members of the association’s West Regional Branch.
Officers and deputies will receive training for various shooter situations throughout the National Guard training center on a variety of courses in order to best prepare for different tactical situations.
“It’s extremely good for our guys to train in a real-life situation,” explained Captain James Stroope with the Brown County Sheriff’s Office.
“When officers and deputies are put in a stressful situation, they’re going to revert back to their training,” said Stroope. “In these training situations, they’re being put in stressful situations, with guns deployed using simulated ammunition. They get shot, but in this case they’re able to go home at the end of the day instead of the hospital.”
“This training is going to help these guys stay safe and do their jobs to the best of their abilities,” said Stroope.
“Training is a very important part of our profession,” said Brownwood Police Chief Terry Nichols. “We appreciate the Texas Narcotics Officers Association and the Sheriff’s Office bringing this course to Brownwood so that our officers can enhance their skills and learn the latest proven tactics.”
This is the fourth year for Brownwood agencies to attend this training as a team, and the second year for the training session to be held in Brownwood at Camp Bowie. Currently the Texas Narcotic Officers Association is considering offering next year’s training session at Camp Bowie.
