As you probably know by now, I am involved with the Lyric Theatre. I’ve been in 2 shows, and open my third this weekend.
I have throughout the course of my somewhat limited thespian career, including high school, played a prince, a racist redneck, a doctor, a drunken Wall Street tycoon, the President of the USA, a milkman, and so forth.
This production, however, has offered me a new role in the world of the stage: grandmother.
Yup. Wig, dress, apron, rocking chair and a cane. I am Granny Hannah.
This casting was certainly a surprise to me, as I had figured that I would not be getting a role in this production. (Seriously, the cast list that Larry Mathis emailed everyone had my role and name next to one another, and beside THAT was in parenthesis “Not a TYPO!)
I am not sure if I want to know why Larry thinks I make a convincing grandmother. But I do know this: we are having a blast working on this.
We actually made it all the way through a rehearsal the other day without breaking character in laughter because of something that happened during the course of said rehearsal.“Beautiful Beulah Belle,” or “Virtues Various Vicissitudes” opens this Thursday at 7:30, with four more performances. Friday evening at 7:30, Saturday at 2:30 and again at 7:30, then we close the run with our final performance on Sunday at 2:30.
If you can make it, it is certain to make you laugh, and laugh out loud. It’s family friendly, and is full of fun.
And hey, you can see me in a dress and a wig.
