I had every intention of watching the Oscars last night. I swear, I did.
I sat down in my comfy “man chair”, kicked off my boots, put on my slippers (cause it was cold out side, but wearing shoes in the house doesn’t sit right with me!) and fired up the TV.
And there it was in the Guide: yet another show about the Loch Ness Monster.
I had to watch. I felt compelled. Like comedian John Caparulo says, “What if they actually find something this time and I’m not there to watch it?!?”
So, like any red blooded American male with a giant TV, I set it so that I could switch back and forth, so I could say on the air that I did watch the Oscars like a good morning show host should.
But every single time I turned back to the Academy Awards broadcast, the presenters looked more bored with what they were saying than I was hearing it. Awards for advances in the sciences of film making. You know, the awards they give out so those guys will go back to work the next day and feel like they are actually part of the movie industry, not the cogs in a wheel they actually are.So any way, I digress. I flipped back to the show and this guy seems to know what he’s talking about. He’s not looking for a specific creature, just what could be in there. And he has a deep voice with a slight British accent.
You know, the kind that sounds very intelligent but not threateningly so. The “I want to enlighten you” voice, not the “I can’t believe you stupid Americans don’t know this already” voice.
Sadly, I didn’t get to see what he’d found, because I did have to get up in the morning to go and host that show that I do. You know, my “Real Job”, that I still can’t believe I get paid to do.
So maybe he found it.
I have no idea.
But I can tell you this, even though it’s re-running all day today, I won’t watch it again.
Because what is sadder, watching a TV show about the Loch Ness Monster, or watching it again, so you can finish it?
Yeah, that’s what I thought, too.
