I had every intention of making it to the State Fair yesterday. A friend and I were going to see a band that was playing, as well as get our faces filled with deep fried goodness.
Alas, that was not to be. We had a short window of time that allowed us to get there, enjoy ourselves and get home in time for a certain zombie themed television program.
And we hit traffic. Bad traffic.
I looked over at him, he at me, and we both decided to get a great lunch and hit a few guitar stores. So we did, and it was a great time. We rolled with the punches, adapted our strategies, made other plans, or whatever you want to call it.
Point is we made adjustments to what we had decided our day was going to be after reevaluating our situation.
How many times have we, and I mean the grand “We”, simply done something out of habit, or pre-made plans when if we loosened our grip a little we could have had such a better time or outcome?
There are times in my own life that I look back on, not too fondly, and realize how closely and tightly I was holding on to things in my life. Had I simply relaxed “my grip” things would have turned out much better in the long run.
Why do we do this? Is it fear of the unknown? There’s a possibility.
What about being afraid of relinquishing control? That presupposes that we actually have control!
I’ve often heard that the easiest way to make God laugh, is to tell him your plans.
Well, I plan to be a little more relaxed in dealing with things I cannot control in my life from here on out, how about you?
(did I just hear laughter?…)
