My daughter and I were out of town for my family’s Christmas get together this weekend, as well as to celebrate in advance my nephews birthday, as it is so close to Christmas.
We loaded up into the SUV, and headed towards DFW early on Saturday morning.
A fun birthday party was had, and then we headed to my brothers house for the Christmas portion of the weekend.
Presents were given, food eaten, and hugs exchanged. (Remind me to thank my father and step mother for gifting my child with an electric scooter! It’s like the next logical progression from those noisy toys you hoped they didn’t get as small children!)
My daughter and I stayed the night at my brother and sister in laws house and left the next morning for the long drive home.
Of course, we were mere moments into the drive when she said she was hungry, and “When’s lunch?” You can almost set your watch by it!So I swing by a certain arched drive thru and get her what she wanted, all the while looking for what I wanted. I have a certain fast food guilty pleasure that I crave whenever I leave the Brownwood area, because we don’t have one here: Jack In The Box tacos.
They’re cheap, tasty, and really hard to eat in the car! (especially when you add extra sauce!) All that aside, I tell you about my craving to tell you this: I hadn’t felt well hardly at all during the weekend, and other than a light breakfast my sister-in-law made, this was the first “real” food I had eaten all weekend, but was determined to do so.
I found my drive thru, placed my order, gave my money, and then pulled ahead and stopped before I hit the highway so I could double check the accuracy of my order.
Glad I did, because the instructions that I had given were either forgotten or ignored and needed attention. I got my replacement tacos, jumped back in the car, and we were on our way.
One taco out of four down, with a sauce/meat spill on my shirt taken care of (Told ya they were hard to eat in the car!), it was time for a sip of the tasty Dr Pepper I had purchased along with my greasy fare.
Yep, you guessed it, not only were the tacos wrong, and spilled down my front, the soda machine was almost out of syrup and I drank what could only be described as brown soda water.
My daughter lost it, and said “Dad, this just isn’t your day!”
Kiddo, you just said a mouthful….
