Funeral Services for Odell Benson, age 89, of Brownwood, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday November 28, 2010 at the Davis Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Richard Ivy officiating, interment to follow in Heflin Cemetery under the direction of Davis Morris Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home. Mr. Benson passed away Wednesday November 24, 2010 in Brownwood.
Odell was born on March 9, 1921 in Doole, Texas to James Amon and Carra Mae (Rogers) Benson. His birth took place in a covered wagon down on the Colorado River. He married Veda Chambers on October 8, 1941 in Brown County. He worked as a carpenter, rancher, and farmer, as well as breaking horses.
Odell is survived by three sons, Gerald Benson of Brownwood, Floyd and Ozetta Benson, Weldon and Linda Benson, grandchildren; Brandy, Cody and Jamie Benson, Jeff Benson, Jennifer Strittmatter, Bruce Masey, great-grandchildren Adrienne Benson, Zoey, Karleigh and Jaycie Wichersham, Abigail, Alex, and Jeremiah Benson, Cole Strittmatter, and Heather and Kelly Masey, brothers; George Benson and Amon Benson and wife Joyce sisters; Vivian Hobbs and Eva Nell Ingram, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Odell was preceded in death by his parents James and Carra Benson, brothers; Walter Benson, Eugene Benson, half brothers; Vergil Benson, Willie Benson, and Odess Benson, half sister Ethel Lindsey, and his daughter Francis Benson.
