Norton was born April 2, 1932 in Barstow, Texas, the Son of Edd Kirksey Taylor and Lena Mae Morgan Taylor.  He grew up and attended school in Barstow, Texas.   Norton joined the Air Force soon after High School and served four years in Biloxi, Mississippi.   After completing his service in the Air Force, Norton moved to Denver City, Texas where he met Mary Lynn Carroll.

The two married on June 29, 1957 in Denver City.  They celebrated their 62nd anniversary last June.  Shortly after they married, Norton joined the Texas Highway Patrol as a State Trooper.  He was initially stationed in Sierra Blanca before moving to the Guadalupe Mountains, then Baird, Breckenridge, McAllen, Del Rio, and eventually to the Brownwood area where he has resided for the last 45 years.

Norton retired from the DPS in 1986 after 29 years of service.  After retirement he spent another 30 years farming and raising cattle.  He loved traveling and spending time with his family.  PawPaw, as his grandkids called him, meant the world to his children, grandkids, great-grandkids, and his beloved dog Minnie.   He was devoted to his church family at the Salt Creek Baptist Church where he had been a member for over 20 years.

Norton was preceded in death by his wife Mary Lynn who passed away last July.  He is survived by two daughters, Cindy Laird and husband Allan of Dallas, Dana Grady and husband Billy of Brownwood; one son, Kevin Taylor and wife Sandra of Glen Rose; six grandchildren, Stacy Laird, Cody Grady, Casey Grady, Torrie Poehls and husband Justin, Megan Grady and Ty Taylor; four great-grandchildren, Lainey Kaye Butler, Tripp Grady, Tex Burrow and MacGregor Poehls.
