Students walking in to the Digital Media Center at Northwest Elementary can find something in addition to computers and books before the Christmas break. The holiday season comes alive in the form of Santa’s Shop, a PTO fundraiser held every year. With the help of decorations donated by teachers, a variety of holiday themed items from rings and bracelets to yo-yos and puzzles are set up on display to make Santa’s Shop a reality for the kids.
“We take part of a day to set it up and myself and the librarian (Ms. Hunt) are the main people who run it,” said Candace Wilson, Vice Principal at Northwest Elementary. ”The products come from a variety of vendors and the money goes to the PTO fund.”
Santa’s Shop creates a fun Christmas atmosphere for the students to experience while also providing them a lesson on money.
“The students learn how to count and use money and the value of items. It is a great real-life math lesson for them,” Wilson said. “It also allows the students an opportunity to buy gifts for family and friends at Christmas time.”
