NinaGrayMemorial services for Nina Ruth Henderson Gray will be Friday December 10, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Patricia Banks officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Mrs. Gray passed away at her home Tuesday morning. She was born October 24, 1933 to Jessie and Alvena Johnson Henderson.

She has lived in Brown County for the past twenty years; she previously lived in Odessa, Texas. On August 28, 1954 she married J.T. Gray in Odessa, Texas.

Nina was the first certified female peace officer in Ector County. She served as a Lieutenant with the Ector County Sheriff’s Department for over twenty years.  During her law enforcement career she had the privilege to escort Elvis Presley on stage in Odessa, Texas.  When they arrived on stage he wrapped his scarf around her neck and kissed her. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Odessa, Texas. Her hobbies were fishing, gardening, antiques and antique glass.

Mrs. Gray is survived by her husband J.T. Gray of Brownwood, a daughter Sharon and husband Thomas Worley of Ft. Worth, Texas, a son-in-law James Schulte. She is also survived by a granddaughter Lori Shields Laird and husband Dustyn of Brownwood, Texas, a grandson Chris Worley of Denton, Texas and a Great-grandson Caydon Laird of Brownwood, two brothers Edward Henderson of Virginia and Clayton and wife JoAnn Henderson of Brownwood, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter Teri Gray Schulte
