The Brownwood Art Association will present a free art demonstration from artist Nil Santana of Abilene at 1:30pm on Saturday, November 10th during its monthly meeting and demonstration.
The public is invited to attend and learn from Santana who is a multitalented artist with experience in photography, digital media, video and graphic design.
A native from Brazil, Nil Santana grew up in a small Northeastern town called Campina Grande. In 1993 he earned his BFA in Industrial Design from Universidade Federal da Paraiba. Although his degree focused in product design, he was always interested in many different possibilities of image and representation. His experimentations included illustrations, mixed media, digital imaging and traditional photography.
In 1998 he moved to Abilene as a graduate student and earned his master degree from ACU in Digital Media. After graduating from ACU, he was invited to teach graphic design at the Department of Art and Design, where he has been teaching for twelve years. Abilene has become his adopted home where he has made long lasting friendships.Nil continues with his explorations in the image making process, now expanding into video, alternative and digital photography. Nil’s photographs have won various awards and been exhibited in many cities and galleries. He has taught fine arts photography in England, Italy, Spain, and France as part of ACU’s Study Abroad summer program. He recently defended his dissertation on video, technology, and art, and earned a doctoral degree in philosophy and aesthetics from IDSVA – Portland, ME.
