The installation of new turf is currently underway at Gordon Wood Stadium in Brownwood. After 10 years, the field was in need of replacement and the process of removing the old turf and installing the new began right before Christmas.
Paragon Sports Constructors was awarded the $426,649 bid December 9th for the project by the BISD school board.
The old turf was stripped off the field, dirt work completed, a new layer of base material put in place and now the new turf is being stretched into place. The project is contracted for completion by February 4th; however, Deputy Superintendent Kevin Gabree stated if all goes well, the project could be completed in January.
The turf material, manufactured by Desso Sports Systems, is expected to last a minimum of 10 years and is made of the material that has been used on some of the top soccer fields in Frisco, FC Dallas, and other top stadiums in the metroplex area according to BISD officials.
Portions of the old turf materials is planned to be used in small sections in the district’s new ag show barn, in batting cages and other small areas in the district according BISD.
