Brownwood City Council has scheduled a special meeting to consider appointment of a new municipal court judge Friday afternoon.
According to City Manager Bobby Rountree, several candidates applied for the position; however these have been narrowed down to four finalists. Candidates being considered through the interview process on Friday include local attorneys Mark Bessent, Lee Haney, GiGi Chastain, and Emily Miller.
The municipal court judge position is hired by the council as is the city manager, said Rountree.
The council will begin interviews during executive session of the council meeting and expect to return to open session around 4:00pm for administration of the oath of office with the candidate selected to serve as the municipal court judge.
Long-time Municipal Court Judge Don Clements retired earlier this month.
