WheatNelsonNelson Wheat, age 85, of Brownwood was called home by his Lord on Saturday, February 16, 2013.

He was born on April 26, 1927 in Blanket, TX to the late Floyd & Veda Mae Wheat.  He and his family were charter members of Early First Baptist Church where his church membership still remains.  He was a graduate of Early High School.  In 1945 he served his country in the U.S. Navy.  On June 11, 1946 he married Winnie Spellman.  She passed away on April 1, 2008 after 61 years of marriage.

Nelson was a Godly husband, father, and grandfather, and loved teaching God’s word and knew it well. He was a farmer and rancher who loved raising his Polled Herefords and cultivating God’s land.  Sports were a very big part of his life, especially football and golf.

Nelson is survived by two daughters, Celinda Sexton and husband Ronald of Glen Rose, Sherry ONeal and husband David of Early; four grandchildren, Brent Sexton, Melissa Spivey, Deborah Nabors, and Delanna Olson; ten great-grandchildren; and a sister Odessa Nichols.

He is preceded in death by his wife Winnie, parents, and Brother Jerry Wheat.

Funeral services will be held at 1PM on Saturday Feb. 23 at Blaylock Funeral Home Chapel with Reverends Eddie Ailshie and Tim Skaggs officiating.  A private burial will be held at a later date.  The family will receive friends and family from 5-7 PM Friday evening at the funeral home.
