The Brownwood Amateur Radio Club, Brown County Amateur Radio Emergency Services, and the National Weather Service in San Angelo will bring their annual SkyWarn Weather Spotter School to Brownwood February 4th.
The weather school will be held during the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Howard Payne University’s Newman Hall (across from Brookshire’s Grocery) behind the Douglas McArthur Academy of Freedom, located at Austin and Coggin Avenues in Brownwood.
Due to recent federal cutbacks, Skywarn weather spotters from Coleman, Comanche, Mills, San Saba, Eastland, and the surrounding counties are asked to attend the Feb 4th school in Brownwood. The weather school is taught by San Angelo National Weather Service Warning Coordination Meteorologist Hector Guererro. Students will learn the developing stages of thunderstorms, how they create high wind, hail, and tornadoes. Attendees will also learn what to look for when thunderstorms are developing.
There is no charge for the school, and anyone interested in meteorology is welcome to attend. Area weather spotters are required to attend to be re-certified for the 2012 storm season.
