Organizers for the area’s National Night Out event that was held in October 2011 received an award for their efforts at Tuesday’s Brownwood City Council meeting.
The National Association of Town Watch recently announced that Brownwood had received the award which was presented by Brownwood Mayor Stephen Haynes on Tuesday to Brownwood Police Crime Prevention Officer Chandra Means and Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce Marketing Manager Ray Tipton.
“I can’t tell you how many people have said something to me about how much they enjoyed National Night Out,” Haynes said. “It’s an evening for people in our community to get together to meet one another and help promote public safety.”
During the 2011 National Night Out in Brown County, over 50 block parties were held in back yards, streets, parks, apartments and driveways in Brownwood, Early, Bangs, and areas of the county. City officials, law enforcement officers, fire departments, and EMS traveled to the block parties around the county. This was the second year the area has participated in the event.
Local sponsors for the county’s National Night Out included Heart of Texas Crime Stoppers, WT Harris Company, ATMOS Energy, Oncor Electric Delivery, Southside Church, TexasBank, and Waldrop Construction.
