Naomi Bostick King, 90, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2014, surrounded with love by her daughters.

Naomi was born November 17, 1924 in Mineral Wells, Texas.  She was the only daughter among seven brothers, so she quickly acquired the nickname “Sissy”.  All of her life friends and family called her Sissy or Sis.  Naomi was for legal purposes only.

The family moved frequently when she was a child so she attended many schools.  She last attended Amon Carter High School in Fort Worth.

During her working career, she worked for some time at the Fort Worth Stockyards during its heyday.  She was fond of sharing memories of those times with family.

Sis married V. O. King in Ft. Worth in 1949.  He brought to the marriage a 10 years old daughter, Geraldine.  Known as “Gerry”, she became Sis’ first daughter.  The three moved to the “farm” near May, Texas in 1951, where daughters Fran and Kathy were born.  They ran a dairy for over ten years then ran beef cattle for 30 years until V.O.’s death in 1993. Farm life was confining since animals needed constant care, so they spent most of their time on the farm and nearby.

Along with her farm career she was a busy mother.  She supported her daughters in all sports and school activities, and was well known around their schools.  She was active in the May community as long as she lived in that area.  She was a member of the May Home Demonstration Club, May Community Improvement Group, Senior Citizens, and the local quilters club.  She gifted handmade quilts and knitted afghans to all of her children, grandchildren, other family and friends.  Many people in the community have received hand knitted baby layettes and other gifts from her over the years.

She remarried in October, 1995 to Vestal King.  Vestal was the widowed brother of V.O. They enjoyed many travels and a happy life together until his death in 2006.  After Vestal’s death she moved to Brownwood Retirement Village where she made many wonderful new friends.  She hosted a weekly game night at her apartment for some close friends there.

Sis was a lifelong Baptist and member of May First Baptist Church, where she leaves behind good friends and fond memories.

In addition to her nickname “Sis” she was lovingly known as “Ma” to her grandchildren, sons in laws, friends, family and all little children.

Survivors:  Daughters, Gerry Hall and husband Thomas of De Leon; Fran Brown and husband Tom of Colorado, Kathy and husband Werner Schmidt of Aledo; Grandchildren Steven Schmidt, Skye Arrington, Joe McCary, Casey Barker, Cal Ezzell, Gwen Hurley, Justin Donaldson; nine great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.  She is also survived by a younger brother, Donald Bostick and family of Missouri.
