Brownwood City Council confirmed City Manager Emily Crawford’s appointment of Tim Murray as Development Services Director at Tuesday’s regular meeting of the council. Murray was one of five interviewed for the position which was posted statewide.
Murray has worked for the City of Brownwood for 13 years. He has been filling in as interim in this position since the resignation of Kevin Pate, and has acted as a department head for several years. Prior to working with the city, Murray was employed by Superior Cable in quality control for 17 years.

Murray is a Registered Code Enforcement Officer with the State of Texas and holds a certification as a Field Signal Technician.
“Mr. Murray exemplifies the character of a civil servant and takes pride in serving the citizens of Brownwood,” said Crawford.
In other matters on Tuesday’s agenda:
*Council approved on first reading an ordinance amending Chapter 74, Article II, Emergency Medical Vehicles, of the City of Brownwood Code of Ordinances to except from the City’s Emergency Medical service (“EMS”) licensing ordinance EMS providers who are providing mutual aid to the contracted Brown County EMS provider. This amendment will allow Lifeguard Ambulance Service to utilize mutual aid providers without requiring the mutual aid providers to obtain a license from the city.
*Council approved an ordinance on first reading to establish a school speed zone along Avenue D from Durham Avenue to First Street. The BISD director of Head Start has requested a school speed zone be established due to the interaction of traffic along Avenue D and the pedestrian traffic created by the necessity of parents parking and walking their young children to classrooms.
*Mayoral appointments and re-appointments to the various boards and commissions were approved by the council as follows:
Brown County Appraisal District: Draco Miller (2 year term ending 12/31/17)
Planning and Zoning Commission: Dr. Kent Comolli (3 year re-appointment ending 12/31/18) and Hank Hunter (replaces Rick Newton, term ending 12/31/18)
Zoning Board of Adjustments: Ken Harris (3 year re-appointment ending 12/31/18) and Eric McNeese (replacing Daniel Hutson, term ending 12/31/18)
*The Second regularly scheduled council meeting December 22, 2015 has been cancelled.
*City offices will be closed for Christmas, December 24 & 25, 2015 and New Year’s Day, January 1, 2016.
