The murder trial of 52-year-old Brownwood resident Randall Philen enters its second week on Monday. Philen is accused of fatally shooting his brother in 2009 at their home.
Last week, jurors heard testimony from investigators and Philen’s family. Prosecutors also played recordings of the defendant’s police interviews and showed photos of the crime scene.
Randall Philen said that his brother, Ronald, was shot and killed in a home invasion.
Prosecutors are arguing that Randall pulled the trigger, killing his brother in December of 2009.
Prosecutors argue that Randall ‘intentionally or knowingly caused the death’ of his brother.
Police report that the original call to the scene in 2009 was for one deceased person and another who was tied up.
After being questioned by police, Randall was charged with his brother’s murder. Philen has been charged additionally with possession of marijuana over 4 ounces under 5 pounds.
Officials at the district attorney’s office said that they expect closing arguments to being early this week.
