Brief rain showers moved through Brown County late Saturday afternoon causing roads to become slick and contributing to three separate vehicle accidents within an hour of each other.

The first wreck was reported at the traffic light of U.S. Hwy 377 and U.S. Hwy 183 S in Early at 6:23pm involving at least three vehicles.  A white Pontiac sustained damage to the front and rear of the vehicle after being “sandwiched” between two pickups.  The pickup that hit the rear of the vehicle, which was pulling an empty cattle trailer, ended up resting on the trunk of the passenger car.   The vehicles were traveling on the incoming lane of Hwy 183 S.

One person was taken to Brownwood Regional Medical Center.  No other details were available as of Saturday evening.

UnderpassWreckThe second accident occurred around 7pm inside the Vine Street underpass involving a single pickup pulling a utility trailer.  The driver said that he lost control of the pickup as he was approaching the underpass due to the wet and slick street.   As he tried to gain control of the pickup, the vehicle entered the underpass and the trailer collided with the partition wall, disconnecting it from the vehicle.  The side of the pickup also hit the inside wall of the underpass, and a windshield shattered causing the driver to sustain cuts on his head and arm.  He was taken to Brownwood Regional Medical Center by a family member.

The underpass was blocked while police worked the scene.

As officers worked at the Vine Street accident, another one-car accident was reported on Carnegie near Howard Payne University.  The vehicle hit a sign and a fence after running off the road.  No injuries were reported.
