Brown County emergency responders were called to a two-vehicle wreck Monday afternoon in Bangs involving a police vehicle, which resulted in three people being injured and one being flown to a hospital by helicopter.
The accident occurred shortly after 3:00 PM in the 500 block of E. Hall Street (Hwy 67W).
According to Bangs Chief of Police Troy Gruesendorf, limited information about the cause of the accident could be released about the wreck until the investigation is completed by Texas Department of Public Safety; however one of his officers, Perry Kelley was involved in the accident and is one of the injured. He is currently being treated for his injuries at Brownwood Regional Medical Center according to Gruesendorf.
A sedan occupied by an elderly couple and a Bangs patrol vehicle driven by Kelley were involved in the crash. An 87-year-old female who was in the sedan was transported by Air Evac Lifeteam helicopter to Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo for treatment of her injuries. Officer Kelley and the other male occupant of the sedan were transported by ambulances to BRMC for treatment of their injuries. The severity of victims’ injuries were undisclosed at the time of the accident.
Emergency responders utilized the Bangs High School football field for a landing zone the responding Air Evac helicopter.
Bangs Police Department, Bangs Volunteer Fire Department, Guardian EMS, Texas DPS and Brownwood Fire Department responded to the scene of the accident.
