Brownwood News – The Early Police Department has arrested a man and, in the process, recovered a stolen handgun.

According to Early Chief of Police, David Mercer, on Wednesday, July 3, officers received a report of a Burglary of a Motor Vehicle that happened in the 100 block of Early Boulevard in a hotel parking lot.  The caller reported the gun had been taken from inside the vehicle sometime during the night.

Around 2:30 am Thursday, July 4, Corporal Michelle Sheedy was patrolling through the parking lot and observed a suspicious man in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn.  The report said the man attempted to hide from officer Sheedy.  While attempting to locate the subject that attempted to evade, a second person was located, detained for investigation and later released.  The initial person that ran was later identified as Ryan Dallas Brown.  Brown was located near the rear of the parking lot, urinating.  Corporal Sheedy attempted to detain Brown when, according to the report, Brown began resisting and trying to get away.  Corporal Sheedy drew her taser weapon at which time Brown began to comply with orders.  Brownwood Police Corporal Johnson arrived to assist.  Officers placed Brown in the patrol car.

According to the report, officers located a handgun laying in plain view of Brown’s car.  The gun matched the description of a gun reported stolen earlier that day.  Brown was arrested for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and unlawful carrying of a weapon.  More charges are expected to be filed, according to Police Chief, David Mercer.
