Stephanie Morgan, an officer with the Brownwood Police Department, was officially promoted to the rank of corporal during a ceremony Tuesday at the Brownwood City Council meeting.
Morgan has been a part of the Brownwood Police Department since 2004. Previous to being an officer, she was a dispatcher for two years.
When asked why she became a police officer, Stephanie stated, “Because somebody told me I couldn’t.”
Brownwood Chief of Police Mike Corley stated that there were three well qualified applicants for promotion to the rank of corporal; however only one could be promoted.
“We had three really good candidates for corporal. I would have been proud to promote every one of them and I wish I could have, but we could only promote one,” said Corley.
Corley stated that Morgan stood out with leadership qualities.
“When I came to work here a year ago, Stephanie was one of those that she knew what she was talking about and was a natural born leader,” Corley said.
City Attorney Pat Chesser administered the Oath of Office and Chief Corley gave the Law Enforcement Oath of Honor during the ceremony (pictured above).
