Written by Ben Cox – With election day looming large tomorrow, area localkids are getting a first hand look at the process at the Brownwood Public Library, thanks to a Kids Voting Booth.
Inspired by other state libraries, Director Beck Isbell and Librarian Hanna Henson decided to let the kids choose their favorite Animal, with Cats or Dogs the selected choices.
As write-in candidates are topical to the this years election, there is also a space on the ballot form for kids to write in an animal that doesn’t fall into one of the two provided categories.
Isbell says “This is a fun way to get kids introduced to the democratic process.”
According to Henson, the votes are being tallied, and the write in process is a bit challenging for some of the younger voters. “We have had several write ins, many are proper names, while some are illegible. But, the kids are excited to earn stickers by voicing their opinions.
Voting will continue through normal library operating hours tomorrow, to mirror adults voting options.
