Mildred S. Weatherman of Mercury, TX, died December 21, 2010 at the age of 90. Mildred June Smith was born on December 13, 1920 to Edmond Kirby and Lucille Grady Smith. She married Glenn L. Weatherman in her parent’s home in Elm Grove, TX on June 9, 1940. Glenn preceded her in death on June 9, 2010, on the day of their 70th wedding anniversary. She is survived by her son, Jerald Weatherman and his wife Gloria of Elm Grove, TX, two daughters – Sarah Elliott and her husband Walter of San Antonio, TX and Dr. Margaret Clem and her husband Alan of Orlando, FL. Mildred is also survived by five grandchildren – Donald Munford and his wife Taryn, Glenn Munford and his wife Sue, Jerry Weatherman and his wife Pam, Monica Edmondson and her husband Scott and M’Liss Rodman and her husband Steve. She is also survived by 12 great grandchildren and by her sister, Shirley McCoy of Weatherford, TX and her brother J. Nelson Smith of Brownwood, TX. She was preceded in death by her brother A. Lynn Smith of Dallas, TX.
Mildred lived in numerous places throughout her married life starting out in Port O’Connor, TX, then Brownwood, TX, and then on to Ysleta (near El Paso, TX). From there she and Glenn moved frequently as Glenn’s Border Patrol assignments changed. She managed to establish homes, graduate from Texas A&I College in Kingsville, Texas, teach school for approximately 40 years, and raise three children while moving between Port O’Connor, Ysleta, TX, Laredo, TX, Alice, TX, Eagle Pass, TX, Harlingen, TX, El Centro, CA, Del Rio, TX. Ultimately, she and Glenn moved back home to Mercury, TX. Throughout her travels and in retirement, Mildred remained active in the local Baptist Church, was a member of Richland Springs O.E.S. #264, Retired Teacher’s Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, NARFE Association, various church and community Women’s groups and the Ostomy support group.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Tuesday at the Mercury Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Simpson and Rev. Joe Walts of San Antonio officiating. Burial will follow in the Cox Cemetery under the direction of the Heartland Funeral Home of Early. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Monday evening at the funeral home.
