Funeral services for Mildred Pittman Ivy, age 87, of Harlingen and formerly of Brownwood will be held Saturday May 27, 2017 at 11 AM at the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Rodney McGlothlin officiating.  Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 10 AM until service time at the funeral home.  Mrs. Ivy passed away  May 20, 2017 in Harlingen.

Mildred was born June 8, 1929 in Port Arthur, Texas to Willie Edward and Loney Del Pittman.  She grew up in Angelina County and graduated from Huntington High School.  She married George Prestridge Ivy , Sr. in 1947 in Angelina County.  They were blessed with two children, Rita and George Prestridge, Jr.

Mildred was a Christian homemaker.  She and George raised their children in Kermit until 1963 when they moved to Brownwood.  After George died in 1970, she remained in Brownwood.  She worked at Patsy’s Dress Shop downtown and later at the Texas Youth Commission Reception Center.  Due to health reasons, she moved to the Rio Grande Valley in 1994 to be close to her daughter.  Mildred was a member of the Baptist Church.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter Rita Spilman and husband Steve of Harlingen; daughter-in-law Linda Ivy of Brownwood; three sisters Helen Duren and husband Clayton of Huntington, Linda Stokes of Dayton and Pamela Buschman and husband Tommy of Hudson; three grandchildren Scott Spilman and wife Mary Ann of  Papillion, Nebraska and their two daughters, Maggie and Abby Spilman, Ivy Ramirez and husband Jaime of Raymondville and their three children Marilyn, Steven and Reagan Ramirez and Joey Matlack Ivy of Austin; two brothers-in-law Ted Ivy and wife Barbara and Jerry Ivy and wife Carolyn; sister-in-law Joy Ivy and many nieces and nephews she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Ivy, Sr. in 1970 and son, George Ivy, Jr. in 2001; her parents and one sister, Mary Brown.
