A graveside funeral service for Carolyn Goodwin, age 83, of Brownwood, will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, December 29, 2019 in the Santa Anna Cemetery.
Carolyn passed from this life on Sunday, December 22, 2019 in Brownwood.
Carolyn was born to Hugh Wallace Foster and Aubrey (Wilson) Foster on Dec. 20, 1936 in Clovis, New Mexico. Carolyn’s childhood was spent in Clear Creek Community of Brown County where catching fireflies in jars and playing after dark was a common childhood occurrence. Family and friends gathered for Easter egg hunts and ice cream suppers at the Foster Home as a childhood friend recalls. Carolyn went to elementary school in Bangs and high school in Santa Anna.
Carolyn married Aubrey Ray Goodwin in September of 1953 and soon after in 1954 they started their family of 5 boys. She enrolled in nursing school in 1955, which enabled her to pursue her lifetime career. She worked in multiple locations through the years and spent most of those at Brownwood Regional Medical Center serving in several capacities. After nursing, Carolyn began her next chapter of life working in the care center in Brownwood and becoming a caregiver to many special friends including her younger sister, Wally. She was made to serve others with her caring, loving and selfless ways.
Carolyn served her Lord and Savior in many capacities; taught Sunday School, helped with Bible School and volunteered for Fishes and Loaves and M.O.P.S at Southside Baptist Church. She went on several mission and medical trips to Mexico and Alaska….always serving others doing the Lords work. She currently is a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Brownwood. Carolyn had a servant’s heart – as Galations 5:13 states, “You my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh, rather serve one another humbly in love.”
As Carolyn served others, the 90’s started her 3 decade battle with cancer. She had a true God given strength to persevere through each hurdle that came her way. Her personal experience helped her work closely with the Walker Cancer Center helping others through their cancer journey.
Carolyn also was a master gardener. It was her true enjoyment in life to create native flower beds in her oasis. She also was in involved in the Garden Club and participated in their annual plant sale. Some might say that Carolyn had the gift of gab, as she never met a stranger. She loved her family and never missed an opportunity to tell others about her grandchildren and great-grands.
