The Corinne T. Smith Animal Center will host a Microchip Clinic on Saturday, January 26, from 9am to noon, at Agmart. The cost is only $20 each, and organizers state that it is “worth every penny.”
“The first thing the shelter does when any animal is brought to us is to scan it for a microchip. If it has a chip with a current phone number, we can get that dog or cat back home in no time,” explained Corinne T. Smith Animal Center Administrative Manager Freda Day. “It is definitely a lost pet’s ticket home if it ends up in a shelter or with animal control. We can’t get the pet back to the owner if we can’t figure out who the owner is.”
The microchipping only takes a minute to insert, and is usually there for the life of the pet.At the same time on Saturday, Holli Fenton, with the Texas Juvenile Justice Department Ron Jackson Center’s PAWS program, will have several of the ready-for-adoption PAWS dog graduates at Agmart. The dogs will be escorted by their student trainers, and will be ready to show everyone what they know.
“Anyone who wants to adopt a dog that is already trained and well-mannered should come take a look,” stated Day. “The PAWS dogs are already fixed, microchipped, vaccinated, and are ready to go home.”
