A graveside funeral service, with full military honors, for TSgt. Michael V. Sheedy, USAF, Retired, age 84, of Brownwood, will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, October 18, 2019 in the Burkett Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at the funeral home.
Mr. Sheedy passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at his home.
Michael Vincent James Sheedy was born May 7, 1935 to Thomas and Ruth Sheedy in Boston, Massachusetts. Michael enlisted in the Air Force in April of 1955, after basic training he began his travels across the U.S. and world. During his time in the military he was stationed in several different cities and countries, including the Philippines, Guam, North Africa and Greenland. In his travels he found himself at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, Texas. There he met and fell in love with a young lady from Burkett, Texas; Bonita Faye Strickland. They married April 4, 1959. Soon after Michael shipped out to serve his country in the Vietnam War, where he was stationed at Bien Hoa Air Base from 1965-1966, serving with courage and honor. Michael completed his military service at the rank of Technical Sergeant, retiring after 20 years in 1975. Michael eventually settled in Brownwood, Texas with his wife Bonita and their three children in 1978. Michael continued his career working as the City Marshall in Santa Anna, Texas for a short period of time. He then worked for the Texas Department of Corrections, Alamo Explosives and finished his working career at the Texas Youth Commission as a Transport Officer.
Michael was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 50 years Bonita Faye Sheedy in 2009, one infant grandson Michael Christopher Garza in 1991, along with his parents, brothers & sisters, two sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law and father & mother-in-law Tom C. Strickland and Ruby Weaver Strickland Hubbard
Survivors include two daughters; Rhonda Kay Sheedy and fiance Ron Smith, Michelle Faye Sheedy, and one son Michael Thomas Sheedy and wife Christy. Four grandchildren; Brittany Elizabeth Priester and husband Jason, Blake Michael Sheedy and fiance Daria Willson, Kaitlin Dawn Sheedy, and Cambry Nicole Sheedy. Four great-grandchildren; Marcus Allan Priester, Graham Christopher Nix, London Claire Priester and Brooklyn Faith Sheedy. Sister-in-law Mary Zelma Strickland and several nieces and nephews. Also his four legged little buddy and faithful companion, Plinko.
He was magical and charismatic…He brought happiness to everyone he met…He was a hero in our eyes… He was our Father and our Papaw.
