Funeral Services for Metta Burney, 92 of Brownwood, will be held at 10 A.M. Saturday, August 27, at First United Methodist Church with Don Scroggs officiating. Burial will follow at 3:00 P.M. at Greenwood Cemetery in Fort Worth. Visitation will be from 6-7:30 P.M. Friday at Davis-Morris Funeral Home. She died Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at her house. She was born Feburary 22, 1919, in Shiloh, Texas to Eva Dee and R.C. Byrd. She was married to L.M. Burney in August 1943 in Groesbeck. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Brownwood.
Her life revolved around her family. Her greatest dream for her children was for them all to graduate from college, which they all did.
Survivors include her son Munger Burney and wife Donna of Crawford; two daughters, Metta Collier and husband John B. of Stephenville and Betsy Taylor and husband Kevin of Lubbock; 6 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband. The family requests that any donations be made to the Peggy Boone Class of the First United Methodist of Brownwood.
