The Howard Payne men’s soccer team secured their first American Southwest Conference post-season appearance last Saturday with a 4-0 win over first place Mary Hardin-Baylor. The 2009 ASC Men’s Soccer Championship Tournament will take place Nov. 6-8 at Cru Sports Plex in Belton, Texas.
The (9-7-1) Yellow Jackets will play (8-6-3) Schreiner University on Friday at 11:00 am. Howard Payne lost the Schreiner earlier in the season 0-1 in overtime.
The entire six-team, single elimination event will be available for fans through live statistics, while Sunday’s championship game will also have live audio. All links can be found on the “Tournament Central” page on the conference’s website, www.ASCsports.org and on the UMHB tournament page.
Friday’s first-round matchups include Schreiner against Howard Payne at 11 a.m., with the winner getting Mary Hardin-Baylor in Saturday’s 11 a.m. semifinal. Ozarks and Mississippi College will duel on Friday at 2 p.m., with the victor going against Hardin-Simmons at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the semifinals. The championship game is slated for 1 p.m. Sunday.
The ASC tournament winner earns an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship.
