MilitaryAppreciationMonthThe month of May is National Military Appreciation Month, a time for all Americans to think about the sacrifices made by our Military and their families.  Our servicemen and women need to know that all of us appreciate their role in protecting and defending our nation’s freedom – during times of peace and especially in times of war.

The months of May and June were selected for this display of patriotism because during these months we celebrate Loyalty Day,  May 1st; Victory in Europe – VE Day May 8th; Military Spouse Appreciation Day, May 8th; National Day of Prayer May 6th, Armed Forces Day, May 15th, Memorial Day May 31st and Flag Day June 14th.  This very important time honors, remembers, recognizes and appreciates all military personnel; those men and women who have served throughout our history and all who now serve in uniform and their families as well as those Americans who have given their lives in defense of our freedoms we all enjoy today.

It doesn’t take much time to become involved. You can show your support by attending the National Day of Prayer Service on Thursday, May 6th 12:00 noon at Depot Plaza in Brownwood and the annual Memorial Day Service to be held on Monday, May 31st, 10:00 am at Eastlawn Memorial Park.   The annual Memorial Day Service is hosted by VFW Post 3278 and Ladies Auxiliary.

You can show your appreciation by displaying the American Flag on your home, car or business from May 1 through Flag Day June 14th, when you see a person in Military uniform or a Veteran shake their hand and say “Thank you for serving our Country”, plan events at your Church, school or organizations you are affiliated with, attend events in your community to honor our Military and Veterans.
