MayDee Maxine Shaw Stephens, 99, joined her loved ones in their heavenly home on Tuesday, February 21, 2017. Her devotion to her family and her faith in God was visible in all she did and said.

Maxine was born to the late Homer and Alba (Boyd) Shaw, in Tulia, TX on February 7, 1918. She was immersed in Christian music. She developed a passion for gospel music from her father who sang in a gospel quartet.  She also sang in a gospel quartet throughout her teen years.

Maxine was blessed with a husband, Jack Martin, who adored her and a devoted son, Homer Hilton “Bud”. She and her husband married and moved to Kerville where they operated a funeral home.  In the 1940’s, Jack, Maxine, and their young son moved to Brownwood where they became members of First Baptist Church.  Maxine was devoted to First Baptist Church and remained a member there throughout her life.  Her time at First Baptist was interrupted periodically as she volunteered for the churches where her son, “Bud” was a pastor.  She spent endless hours at Woodcreek Baptist Church, North Ridge Baptist Church, and MidTown Baptist Church. She is dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is singing in Heaven.

Maxine is survived by her daughter-in-law, Sarah Stephens McAlpine; her granddaughters, Teresa Stephens Lee and Deborah Stephens Davis;  and great-grandchildren Colton Lee, Macey Lee, Brandon Crowder, Stephen Crowder, and Sarah Crowder. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Alba Shaw; son, Homer “Bud” Stephens; and sister, LaNell Tharp.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude and appreciation to Oak Ridge Manor for all of their compassion and care.

Private family burial will be held on February 27th in Eden Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home.
